an intro

black girls who wish they could be somewhere else loom large in sheena’s writing. her stories, essays, and visual works have received a center for fiction emerging writer fellowship, made wigleaf’s top 50 very short fictions list, been named on longreads readers’ best of list, and decked the walls of the massillon museum.
sheena’s taught and facilitated writing courses and workshops at parsons school of design, brooklyn public library, girls write now, the free black women’s library, and elsewhere. also, she’s an alum of the Kimbilio Black Fiction workshop and the Lambda Literary Writers Retreat.
she holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from the new school and an MS in higher education governance from the university of helsinki. her words have received support from Saltonstall, Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, and Café Royal Cultural Foundation.
sheena reads flash fiction at split lip magazine, works in educational development, and lives in nyc. but she’ll forever be an ohioan.
